Latest news from the club

Exciting news - our balcony work is well underway! We have had so many years of waiting that it hardly seems possible that it will be reality...

A huge thanks to Martin Good for his dogged determination to see this progress from dream to reality, it’s been a long road.

We still have some fundraising to do to pay for the remainder of the costs for both the balcony and making the pitch in front of it playable and you can help. We still have bricks available so why not get your family name on the balcony for posterity? See the end of this email for details on how!

The club would like to thank the family of Tim Mogford who collected money for the youth section in his memory.

We need your support now, more than ever. We have 3 big events coming up so would love to have you at the club to enjoy them.

The first is a pre match lunch on March 11th. The 1st XV will be playing Marlow on the Mead and following on from that, England v France will be shown on the big screen.

The second is our Annual Club Dinner on 5th May with details tbc.

The third is our Annual Club Masquerade Ball on 13th May which will be at the club this year and the balcony features this year as we are holding a pre ball Champagne Reception on it for a lucky few. You will have received details for this already - make sure you get your ticket ASAP!

Now, getting down to the rugby...

Mike and his team have certainly faced a difficult season so far but when we do get full teams out, we are a force to be reckoned with - as we saw on 18th February when both 1st and 2nd teams saw victory!

The 2nd team had another victory against Reading Abbey on 4th March - 31 points to their 17!

See below for a few photos - the rest can be found on the club website here!

A special mention is deserved for Chris and Steve, who started in the 2nd row for the 2nd XV game against Rams IV and have an incredible combined age of 124!

Belles

Our women’s team is having a difficult season, though in a completely different way, they are excelling in their league but there have been so many drop-outs in their league that our women are not getting the match play that they want.  Sunday 26 Feb saw an incredible 42-12 win against Aylesbury Ladies with hat-tricks for Jess T and Laura!

Players of the match were...

Forward - Abi. "She had a great game all round and every time she had the ball in attack she broke the line and made some great runs. Also solid in the scrums winning some turn overs"

Back - Jourdan. "Her first game after major surgery less than a year ago but it was like she hadn’t been off the pitch! Quick to the rucks to get the ball out and some great breaks almost getting over the try line!"

U16 Girls

The club played host to Bucks RFU U16 girls (South Bucks BaaBaas) twice recently when they took on Middlesex and Chesham. Both great games of rugby on the Mead with a large crowd watching, and an incredible 47:5 win against Chesham!

Senior Rugby - Upcoming games

The 1st XV have a busy schedule for March with matches v Marlow, Swindon Old Boys and Bletchley. Swindon is away but the other 2 are home games so we do hope that you’ll make it down to support!

The Belles also have an away game against Didcot this weekend, hoping to continue their success after their incredible win against Aylesbury.

6 Nations games on the big screen!

Saturday 11th March:  Italy v Wales 14:15 and England v France 16:45

Super Saturday 18th March: Scotland v Italy 12:30, France v Wales 14:45, Ireland v England 17:00
