BOXING DAY GAME
The annual Boxing Day game is back! There will no doubt be port, there will be carols in the club after (12 days of Christmas is a personal favourite). Players to meet at 10:30 with kickoff at 11:30. Come down to the club for some festive fun!!
BELLES
What a few weeks it has been for the Women's team! Due to some changes in our league, we found ourselves without a game for a number of weeks, so by the time our away game to Aylesbury came along we were excited to get on the pitch, and what a game it was! We started off strong and quickly got into our stride, settling into the plays we have been working on in training. This resulted in a 5-42 win for us with our full back Laura getting a hattrick.
Our next league fixture brought us back home to face Didcot, we knew this would be a tough game and after a video review session the week before in the clubhouse we knew what we wanted to work on. This didn't all go to plan but the women dug really deep, the forwards had a tough game on their hands but very pleased to say our scrums and line outs were solid allowing the backs to get the ball and make some great runs resulting in a great team try finished off by Franzi. It was a very close game but we managed to come away with a 17-10 win putting us TOP OF THE LEAGUE!
With another team having to withdraw from our league our next fixture will be on 15th January at home against Banbury.
The South Bucks BaBas had a recent triumph over Brackley for their first away win of the Bucks invitational League. The girls U16’s SBB consists of players representing Beaconsfield, Marlow and High Wycombe rugby clubs.
Read more about their game here.
The past couple of months have been challenging for Wycombe seniors with some challenges in availability due to a large increase in injuries this season, along with certain other external factors, which has lead to some challenges in fielding multiple teams on Saturdays. No doubt adding to the challenge of this, is that our 1st XV has just completed its string of games against our more challenging opposition which have all seemed to fall at the end of the rotation of fixtures, having our had our games against the lower table teams at the start of the season.
Now we have played all teams, we start to see these fixtures coming around again. This began with Milton Keynes away at the start of December, and while the home team finished the game with a win, Wycombe were certainly looking a lot more like themselves, playing high continuity rugby to score some fantastic tries (of note was a try including a chip and chase by our hooker, and a half volley by our flanker, to be finished by the former in MKs in-goal area). Frustratingly, as we start to double down against opposition who find themselves in the relegation area, the weather has meant our games against Ready Abbey, and likely our away bus trip to Swindon may not go ahead, meaning we get the chance to play these in February.
Finally of note, we have agreed the appointment of a new Head Coach to drive the squad into a prosperous new year and a long term aspirational future. More details to follow on this in the new year, but certainly exciting times ahead for senior men's rugby at High Wycombe!
After the Boxing Day game, our next event will be the pre-match lunch taking place on Saturday 21st January: Not The Bar Chairman's Lunch!
As always, this will be 4-course pre match lunch and it is prior to the Bletchley game.
The form will follow via separate email shortly and will be made available here so check back later this week!
